Riyaz Studio is a practice app for Hindustani classical music. This policy explains what the app does with your information.
What the app collects
Nothing is collected, transmitted or shared. Riyaz Studio has no user
accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, and no third-party SDKs. The
app does not request the INTERNET permission, so it is technically incapable
of sending your data off the device.
Microphone
The app asks for microphone permission so it can:
- show which swara you are singing and how far you are from it (the sur meter and the lesson / song sing-along);
- measure your vocal range when you ask it to;
- write down the swaras of a tune you hum into the song editor ("Hum a line"); and
- record your practice when you press the record button.
Audio from the microphone is analysed on your phone in real time and is not stored unless you start a recording yourself. Recordings are saved as WAV files inside the app's own private storage on your device. You can play them back or delete them from the app. Uninstalling the app deletes them.
You can refuse or revoke microphone permission at any time in Android Settings; the tanpura, tabla, lehra and song library keep working without it.
Data stored on your device
The app saves the following locally, in its own private app storage:
- your pitch, tanpura, tabla and lehra settings, and any saved setups you name;
- custom ragas and songs you create;
- lesson and song scores, your measured vocal range, your daily practice minutes and streak, and a list of recently practised items;
- practice recordings you make.
None of this leaves your phone. It is removed when you uninstall the app or clear the app's data.
Notifications
While the tanpura, tabla or lehra is playing, the app shows an ongoing notification so Android keeps the sound running with the screen off. It contains no personal information.
Children
The app is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this same address with a new date at the top.
